Happy, the hippo, loved blowing bubbles out of his nose. His friends could only spray water in directions - but Happy could create big, colorful bubbles and blow them into the sky.
His mother was embarrassed. "Happy doesn't do anything else. He loves to make bubbles all day. He doesn't make friends. He doesn't make sounds. I am sad for him." "But why?" said the father Hippo. "So what if Happy is not like the others. He doesn't play, but everyone loves his happy face. He is quiet, but everyone loves his calmness. And they love the bubbles he makes."
Happy's mother thought about this for a long time, and then said suddenly, "You're right! Happy is different but he makes others feel good. And he is always content."
So now, in the sunset, as the hippos enjoy their evening bathe, you will see Mother Hippo smiling as Happy blows bubbles, all shimmery and red in the colored evening sky. And all around are smiling faces as the others watch the beautiful baubles float away into the distance.
